The Art of Missing Out

by Baron Ryan on Instagram @americanbaron

Why are friends so hard to come by as an adult? Something happens with age, where loneliness gets easier and cheaper.

See, loneliness is a funny vice. It only happens when you're around nobody or everybody. It feels like you are the only one going through it, and yet everyone on Earth can give a TED talk about it.

The world is refreshingly small, and we are refreshingly unoriginal inhabitants. Our pain is plagiarised from the same source. There is some comfort in that; that we're on the same team facing the same final boss.

For instance, I can't buck this sense that I missed out on something back there. Why does it seem like everyone went through that John Hughes college movie except me? I can't be the only one that feels that. A ton of you are probably gonna say, "Same."

The way I also see it though, is, there are so many seconds to enjoy. There's a lot to resent too, don't get me wrong, but for those seconds of good fortune. You won't ever have FOMO. Sure, some memories never happened, but some did, and you'll miss them, but you'll never miss out on them.

I hope this helps.

Best wishes,

americanbaron
